Teacher Leaders

A teacher leader is someone who is organized and can work well with others. They have an innate leadership quality that the school community benefits from. These teacher leaders are able to be helpful and active members of their school based on many qualities that they possess. They are open to other people's opinions and suggestions. Teacher leaders are also creative people that are able to come up with exciting new ideas for the school. They are willing to work with the faculty, parents, and students so as to better the classroom learning environment for the students.

This site uses information from a variety of people and offers assistance to teachers to become leaders in their schools. They hope that teachers can be a positive change in their schools and this website provides links and workshops to enhance those skills that the teachers already have. This website tries to organize and inform teachers on how to be a positive impact not only on your student's lives but also in the whole school community.

I feel that I could possess the qualities to become an effective teacher leader in the school that I teach at in my future. I want to be a positive impact not only on my students but in working with faculty, parents, and the community as a whole. It might be hard at first to gain all the skills necessary to be a teacher leader, but with hard work and the resources available to us I believe I can build on my skills and become a teacher leader in my school.

How will you use your skills to become a teacher leader in your future schools? Are these resources necessary or is it a quality that you already possess?

  1. I think by being involved in every aspect of the school you teach at will qualify as being a teacher leader. One of the reasons that so many teachers aren't leaders is because they are just there for a pay check instead of actually wanting to influence and educate young people. I don't want to sound judgmental because I think this can happen to the best teachers. The resources you listed and others will help us to not fall into this common mind set. Although leadership skills can be natural qualities, I do think that the resources we have put together can help us perfect our leadership skills.

  2. I also think the resources can be helpful, especially if you have a desire to do a bit more but aren't quite sure how. Also, it's nice to have a support system of other teacher leaders. There's no sense going alone if you have great teachers to network with.

  3. I agree with Mark and Megan. I believe being a leader is a quality people already possess, however any networking or assistance can be greatly beneficial for everyone. I think the teachers with a great love and passion for teaching will become the best teacher leaders. They will dedicate the time and energy to make their students, school and community great! www.teacherleaders.org is a great website for teachers!

  4. I think being a teacher leader is something you learn from experience. I believe that we all have the qualities needed to become one as we are focused on getting our masters and preparing ourselves for the classroom. However, until we are actually in our own classroom with students and a supporting community we will not reach our full potential of being teacher leaders.

  5. I think that being a teacher leader is both a combination of a quality people already posses and something you can learn. I feel that this program is really presenting us with tools to become great teacher leaders by teaching us effective ways to enact change in the classroom without alienating others in the school we work at. However, there are some personality qualities that are required of a good teacher leader which I think can't be learned.
